Monkey Wrench for Sale
Morning of Day 10. Not such a good start. I remember saying a while ago that Everyman had the weakness of relying on a few hours of solid sleep, and today I am mired in the bowels of that weakness.
My lovely toddler started waking up at 2 a.m. sharp, and got me up about every half hour thereafter. Even though my lovely boy (everyone who puts up with me is lovely, FYI) took turns with me, it’s not like I could sleep through her crying. She fell asleep about 5:30 finally and I snoozed until 6:15, and actually don’t feel too awful, considering. I’ll make it.
I’m starting to sense a pattern / formula to this polyphasic thing. This came as I was pondering, last night, maybe modifying the schedule in about a week, if things stay the same — I have noticed that I’m routinely tired before my 9 a.m. nap, not tired at 2 p.m., tired at 6 p.m., not tired at 10 p.m. and really tired at 1 a.m. (as in, I still have to struggle to stay up between 1 and 2). I was thinking, perhaps I would be better in line with what my body seems to want if I extended my core to 4 hours, 1-5, and lopped off the two naps I don’t seem to need, at 2 & 10. This would certainly be more convenient for my schedule, and I’d only be sleeping 20 minutes more, total, than I am now. (3hr + 4 naps = 4:20; 4hr + 2 naps = 4:40).
Anyway, I realize I may still be adjusting, so I’m not going to do anything right now but keep an eye on it.
I’m starting to see a pretty clear pattern in these polyphasic schedules, which suggests that roughly speaking,
- polyphasic sleeping is 600% more effective than monophasic; and
- one nap equals about 2 hours of “core” sleeping, opening the doors for several other schedules that could be attempted
Anyway, I don’t have it finished, but I will post the details soon — it’s interesting. Right now though, it’s naptime, thank goodness!
