Boston Polyphasic update; Everyman roundup

Well, getting back on Everyman was pretty darn easy. I took naps for one day, got through the night with only mildly aggravating tiredness, and was fine all day (slept for my naps) and feel fine tonight. Yay for easy adaptation!

Now it’s 2:47 and I’m getting ready for my core…my 2-hour core. I’m going to go ahead and try doing a 3-hour core (yesterday), then a 2, then a 1, and then dropping it, and see what happens. (I’m on vacation, so worst comes to worst, I crash, I guess.) This seems like the most direct way of transitioning Everyman to Uberman, and I haven’t come across anybody else who’s tried it (anybody?), so away we go. If it doesn’t work, I’ll pick my core back up again and try something else.

It’s been a month now. My determination so far on Everyman is this: It’s a nice way to cut your overall sleep time by half or so. It works, and it doesn’t make you tired — what I said before about accumulating a sleep debt needs more investigation, but looking at it from here, holy crap was I stressed out last week; it’s very likely that I crashed so hard due to sheer psychological exhaustion, having nothing to do with Everyman. So I’ll keep an eye on it from here on out for signs of sleep debt, but in general I feel no more tired on Everyman than I do when sleeping monophasically. The only thing not to like about Everyman, really, is that it does *not* come with the cool side-effects of Uberman, like always having tons of energy, never being tired, and having beefed-up mental clarity. Everyman doesn’t really feel different from monophasic; you just sleep less. I’ve also noticed that, on Everyman, I don’t “bounce” right awake after a nap; rather, I’m groggy and woozy for a few minutes. This isn’t the case with Uberman, even during the 10-day stint I did of it last month, I was waking from the naps regularly with no problem. But it could be a diet or sleeping habit, too, causing that problem; again, more investigation is warranted.

Okay, sleepytime. Let’s see how hard this two-hour core is to pull off, eh? ;)
