Everyman — Day 42! Yay, 42!

…So, in spite of the hideousness that was Friday and all the time it took to correct my sleep-schedule thereafter (think I should be back to 100% today), lots was learned. Check these two chunks o’ hard-mined wisdom out:

  • Best Time to Nap: After weeks of watching, I finally saw the dip in alertness that Heidi’d been urging me to see, and yes, it’s quite the serious bit of knowlege. I now know that, while I can nap anywhere in “nap hour” and be technically okay (i.e. my “six p.m.” can happen anywhere from 5:30 - 6:30 — NOTE this is specific to Everyman and NOT true for Uberman) — my best naps happen from ten to to ten after. If I can nap at ten to, I fall asleep faster, sleep sounder, and wake happier. I’ll be damned. Heidi rulez. But you knew that.
  • Mornings: Funny, this. I will wake up fairly easily at five (after my 3:30 - 5 a.m. core sleep) provided that I get out of bed within ten minutes of my alarm going off. If I miss that window, I will black right the hell out–alarms or no alarms, sometimes in spite of people physically shaking me–and sleep until seven. That’s inconvenient, however, it is kind of neat that I can stay up most of the night, and “sleep in” until 7 a.m., and feel like a million bucks all day. (I can’t, however, do this for more than one day in a row, or I start having trouble sleeping during the day, it seems.) And I don’t feel bad if I get up at five, either; worst comes to worst, I need a 15-minuter at 6:30 or so to freshen up for the drive into work. (I have, however, completely dropped the 2 a.m. one. In fact I haven’t been tired at night at all for the last 2 days….actually, last night I accidentally stayed up until 4, because I was sucked into what I was doing!)

So, see? Old dogs can learn and soforth.
