Sick and tired? Maaaaan….

Argh.  Got sick yesterday.  Some flu or food-service bug.  Ick, ick, ew.

Feeling better today, but WOW all I want to do is sleep.  ;)  In spite of everything, though, I’ve been on schedule — I slept when I could last night, but that turned out to be 10-11p and 3-5 a.m., so there you have it.  Not autopilot, but close enough, maybe.  I think I just want to sleep today because it’s cold (the weather finally turned, so bye bye summer) and I don’t feel so hot.  I’ll make it, though.

Since my brain isn’t really capable of anything fancy, here’s a list I’ve been meaning to post, of Items Polyphasers Should Have Around.  Most apply during and after adjustment, but some are more adjustment-centric than others.  Use your brain, man, that’s what happens when mine takes a vacation.  ;)

  • Healthy snacks (you’re up, don’t spend it getting fat)
  • Water bottle (polyphase increases your hydration requirements)
  • Several kitchen timers & extra batteries; stash some in your car, work, etc.
  • Eye-masks, same as above
  • Notepad & paper…yes, I recommend those to everyone anyway, but for polyphase it’s a good idea to be able to note questions & observations for later, in case it’s 10 or 20 hours before you’re back at your “home base”!
  • Good stash of lively music
  • Contact information for people you rarely get in touch with (you’ll have time now)
  • List of projects you’ve been meaning to do forever (ditto)
  • Camera (especially if you go out at night)
  • Small flyer or pamphlet explaining what polyphasic sleep is (gods, those are handy…unless you *like* explaining the same thing over and over again…hmm, maybe I should make one of mine available for download?)
  • List of movies you’ve been meaning to watch (assuming you’re like me and never get around to them unless you’re up late and bored)
  • Nice shower products (lure yourself into waking up)
  • Comfy clothes (that you can go out in and sleep in without too much hassle)
  • Jokes, poetry, songs, etc. that you want to memorize (I recommend the Bill of Rights, as well. ;)
  • A Manifesto — a card or something carryable that you’ve written your goals and reasons on.  When you’re sick of trying, you can remind yourself why it’s worth it.

…Of course, additions to the list are welcome.  And now I’d better cut out for the moment…you know, given my present condition, I may take an extra 20-minute nap between my 2 and 6.  That’s safer than sticking an extra one in at night!

…And because I feel bad for being skimpy on content, here’s a neat link on studies that prove that stereotyping has a genuine, measurable effect on peoples’ performance.  Go show it to your buddy’s Racist Friend.  ;)
