If you love smart things and cosmic things and godsworthy art and truth with balls, you love Robert Anton Wilson by definition.
This is a writer who inspired me, over a whole decade of my life, to new heights of weirdness, wordiness and hope. After everything I’ve learned and read, he is and will always remain one of my favorites. Not many people can claim to have written several staggering works of genius, and been widely regarded as one of the coolest, nicest guys on the planet to boot. That whole “being a personal friend of Timothy Leary” thing and all its many cultural analogs is just a bonus.
His wife, rest her essence, was just as cool and wrote some of the most fabulous, snarkiest modern poetry ever.
There was a time when I’d have sold my [insert anything here] for a chance to meet this man. Now the tables are turned, though: RAW is very ill and has run out of money, and is facing not being able to make his rent. As D. Rushkoff says in his version of this same plea, he (and I) refuse to let history say that a man this great died destitute and alone.

Update: Looks like this particular genius will live out his last days at home, with plenty of money to pay his rent and bills. Hell yes, humanity. I don’t get proud of you often, but you done right this time. *yay*
