Relapse Purgatory

Wow, this readjusting crap *sucks*. I’m going out to buy another alarm today, because I keep completely not hearing mine.

It occurs to me that readjusting when you’re already polyphasic is inherently difficult, because your body is already used to getting “just enough” sleep — hence, waking up when you’re not inclined to naturally (which you won’t be if you fall off the schedule) is a real bear. This morning, after oversleeping 2 hours on my core, I wondered if it wouldn’t be better to actually reset to monophasic (”normal”) sleep for a week before trying to fix the “relapse” — that way you’d have some extra sleep built up with which to haul your arse outta bed! …But I won’t be doing that unless I absolutely have to. Rewriting my schedule to function on 8 hours again would be nightmarish. >.<

Also, somebody from work came and rapped on my car window and interrupted my 9 a.m. nap. Hoo boy. Maybe this means I’ll be able to sleep this evening–? I can hope. The vicious cycle that’s developed post-relapse is that I can’t sleep in the evening, but then once 9 or 10 p.m. rolls around, I’m exhausted, and will sleep right through any alarms I set for 20 or 90 minutes. My previous automatic-waking-at-three-hours programming has been disrupted, so now I tend to oversleep, instead of just sometimes taking my three-hour core at 9 instead of 1. Grr. I’ll get past it. This is still chickenfeed compared to an Uberman adjustment. ;)

FYI, too, this does pretty conclusively show that, on Everyman at least, you can oversleep for ONE DAY and only one day, and you’ll be fine. I did it several times over the course of my three months, and never had to readjust. But when I overslept for two days running, POW! Suckage.

Are you in the mood for something amazingly strange and funny? Well, you can never do better than Asian game shows for that, can you? This one’s a real doozy.

Peace,
-PD
