Ex ((Congressman(x) & Sane(x))

I’m not often particularly proud of my home state (of the nation, not of mind) — but I do adore this guy:

His father voted for the bill in Congress creating Social Security in 1935, and, like him, Rep. John Dingell, Jr., D-Mich., has introduced a national health insurance bill every year since he took his father’s seat in the House 50 years ago. So it is no surprise the powerful committee chairman says he will try to fix the Medicare prescription drug benefit by forcing the administration to negotiate lower prices from drug companies.

Full article at Science Blog is actually called “Dingell Bills”. Now that’s ballsy.

Ahem. The pandering to huge corporations has got to stop. And so does the perception that it’s good for business as a whole in this country — in case anybody hasn’t noticed, the business climate sucks in this country. Yes, Michigan particularly, but it’s not exactly booming everywhere else, either. The slaughter of mom & pop retailers and other entreprenurial ventures, combined with a refusal to hold U.S. companies to U.S. standards even when they operate on foreign soil, is going to devastate our economy if we don’t take some action. And don’t even get me started on the environmental, cultural, aesthetic and educational consequences.

Bah.

P.S. The Subject says “For some thing x, x is both a Congressman and Sane” in First Order logic.
