Rules may change without notice!

So, yeah. New rule. Because if I write a separate post for all the little cool things I find, I will write a million and two posts. And we all know what happens if you write more than a million posts. Yup — Blatherocalypse.

So polyphasic blather and cool things are officially allowed to coexist. Oh, and nifty stuff and link fodder, too, because let’s face it, they’re the same thing that I happen to like three phrases for. We reserve the right to act aesthetically. We’ve taken classes in aesthetics, so we’re qualified.

So. First, the cool thing: Did you think that teenagers took risks because they didn’t understand, or think about, the consequences? If you did, think again. From scienceblog.com:

“Teens smoke, take drugs, have unprotected sex and ride with drunk drivers, not because they think they are invulnerable or haven’t thought about the risks, says a new Cornell study. In fact, they are more likely to ponder the risks, take longer (about 170 milliseconds more) weighing the pros and cons of engaging in high-risk behavior than adults — and actually overestimate the risks. It’s just that they often decide the benefits — the immediate gratification or peer acceptance — outweigh the risks, says Valerie F. Reyna, professor of human development at Cornell.”

And how about a seriously not cool thing too, while we’re at it. From the Washington Post:

“…In the video, much of which was filmed inside the Pentagon, four generals and three colonels praise the Christian Embassy, a group that evangelizes among military leaders, politicians and diplomats in Washington. Some of the officers describe their efforts to spread their faith within the military.”

…Yeah. Proselytizing in the Pentagon. It’s not that words fail me, but rather that the words which would come out if I let them would probably get me in trouble. So we’ll pretend that words simply fail me. ::shudder::

Now, your polyphasic update. I meant to do this yesterday, but it was Holy Hell Homework day (and now the semeseter is over YAAAAAY!).

I’m still slightly sick — I swear, I got the SuperGlue cold this year. I know it’s not just me, because I didn’t get it any worse than most of the people I know who had it, and better than some. Just a nasty, icky cold. But the coughing is minimal now, only bad first thing when I stand up or if there’s a heat vent on by me (weird, I know). So I decided enough of this four-hours-cuz-I’m sick crap, and went back to three.

It’s kind of funny how hard last night was. I mean, considering it’s been four+ hours for, what, almost three weeks now? — It’s not surprising I got used to it. But wow, last night was real sleep-dep again! Not like Uberman-day-four sleep-dep or anything — more like 3 a.m. day two — but still, it’s been a while. I’m happy to say that I’d almost forgotten what that was like!

Now, however, it’s time to go do it again, so that I can get back to forgetting what it’s like. Grokky?
