There’s a reason for the “late night random” category. Behold:

I’d have to say that I’m in an excellent mood for getting drunk and picking a fight. Or maybe for inventing a zero-player roleplaying game. (I was just discussing one- and two-player games with my husband; game design is a hobby of ours. The sheer existential balls of writing a game intended for no players appeals to me…)

It is, however, a good thing that I’m not very fond of drinking. I don’t mind the buzz, but that weird blood-sugar-crash-effect thing that it does sucks. And, um, I tend to pick fights.

I’m in the kind of mood you get from schoolwork overload eating almost all of a weekend you needed quite badly thanks to work overload. (In other words, if only I didn’t have my homework and that paper due, I could work over the weekend and not be so overloaded. Sheesh, I really am turning into my father…)

I did just learn something, however, so ha. Turns out that Windsor Castle in England is the longest continuously-occupied castle (and so, I imagine, the longest continuously-occupied structure that we know about), having had constant human companionship since it was created almost 1000 years ago. Knowing that, I want to see it - to see what the effect of constant humanity has on something. If a building could go insane, I’d be really worried about that one! Oh, and read up on the Royal Perogative - what the monarchy has the power to do; it sounds fascinating from the tone of the mumblings from the chair next door.

Mildly stupid fast fact: I share not only a computer room, but a computer desk with my husband. We have for almost two years. It’s a sizeable but not big-enough desk; the ergonomics are awful. But it’s worth it, because man, I know my marriage is solid. Nerds are like betta fish - we like our own fishbowls. (Even I have to admit, I’m looking forward to some elbow room!)

In any case, work, life, and sleep continue as usual. Can’t wait for it to frakking warm up some. They call it S.A.D. now and charge you to “cure” it, but dammit, it’s the late-February-early-March (-sometimes-into-April-or-even-May-because-this-is-Michigan) blahs. Everybody gets them. They suck. Though I know me — I’m going to have to fight myself all Spring from looking at all the nice weather and wondering if global warming is going to ruin Spring. (Michigan springs, of course, are what make Michigan winters at least somewhat worth it. Fall, too.) But I will fight the urge, maybe by carrying a small cudgel and whapping myself in the head every time I think that way. People would think I was so hardcore.

Oldest continuously occupied structure in the world a castle? How about a ryokan?

On the other hand, it’s probably been torn down and rebuilt many times over the last 1400 years.

Zero-person role-playing game … has a kind of zen to it, I must admit. Either you’d have no human participants, or some way of enforcing the rule “Be yourself, or get bounced out of the game.”
