What’s Your Magick Number?

…Yes, I said magicK.  I used to read a lot of Crowley, okay?

(And it was great stuff, writing-wise.  I never got much into the whole I-am-Dr. Orpheus thing, but if you just appreciate a good weilder of the pen, Aleister Crowley was, well, magic…k.  Diary of a Drug Fiend?  Spectacular.  The Book of Lies?  Hilarious.  The Book of Thoth — actually one of the best serious works on mystic symbolism you’ll find.  I think all of it loses its charm if taken too seriously…but heck, what doesn’t, right?)

Anyway, the reference to a "magick number" was actually meant to refer to kitchen timers…Come on, I know you’ve got one.  I’ve got three, and that’s only because I consistently lose two (so actually I have five, but I can only find three at any given time).  For beginners, it’s 20 minutes, period — but once things progress a bit, exactly how long you set your nap-timer for is a highly personal thing.  So weigh in!

For my part, it’s usually 23 minutes.  Lucky numberage aside, 23 minutes gives me enough time to settle (1-2 min.), compose my thoughts (1 min. or less), and then do a breathing exercise to encourage sleep (usually 2 mins).  I prefer to get 18-19 minutes of sleep.  If I fall asleep quicker for some reason, then I’m going to wake up ahead of my timer, and while that’s not terrible, I don’t really like to.  There’s always a moment of cold panic where I wonder if the stupid thing didn’t go off and I overslept!

Anyway…what about you?

Still sleeping in a big block. Being 14, going to school and having a mum that likes me to get enough sleep makes changing become an issue. She hated it when I refused to sleep for a few days, I went to sleep because she was literally pulling her hair out. :P Had to vote because I like to be different. xD
