The Dark Is Rising…Redux!

I heard on the news this morning that Michigan is 11 inches over it’s February average snowfall, as of this morning.  (We’re getting another 3-5 inches as I write this.)  That makes this, so far, the 7th Snowiest February in our known history.  And most of the others, in my experience, were the result of One Big Snow at some point that dumped a foot on us.  This month has been medium-snow-after-medium-snow, just enough to snarl traffic and make you shovel.  Ick!

So, I’ve been sitting in my office working and watching snow pile on my car all morning.  And then my clients started cancelling.  Eventually, all of them did.  Which feels very eerie, and now I’m watching the snow whirl madly around with snatches of The Dark Is Rising floating through my head again.  …And it’s some eerily enthusiastic snow, let me tell you.  I sort of wish I had a camera.  And knew how to take good pictures.  ;)

Oh, hey, a question I’ve been asking everyone lately, for fun — Which do you prefer, the Book Ending of "Hannibal" or the Movie Ending?  Don’t even think about answering if you’ve only experienced one, of course.  And by all means tell me why your preference.  I’m going to wait until I get plenty of answers (I’ve already got quite a few) and then go read the book again, to see if I can defend my own views.

Why?  Because for people like me, that’s considered fun.  In my mind, there’s a poll that says "Bar, People, Beer?  or Coffee, Computer, Philosophy?"  And no matter how I tweak my brain, it always checks the latter box.  Eh, it used to bother me, but after a while you learn to play the video game you’re loaded with.  ;)

Here’s another fun thing to do (at least for me) — I’ve been sifting through my head lately and thinking of questions I could ask that other people might have difficulty answering.  It’s neat!  If you think about it, you probably know some pretty obscure crap.

I love sifting through my brain.  It’s like going through the attic boxes when you were a kid — you find weird, dusty things and hold them up to the light, wondering if you ought to know why this is here, or if it might have been planted there by aliens, or why you forgot about it since you obviously loved it so much at one time.

Okay, enough rambling.  For those seeking polyphasic updates, my sleep schedule is fine, though my schedule-schedule is still tattered from the vacations and family crap that have occupied this month.  Could be worse, though; enough of the schedule "caught on" in my head that I’m getting a lot more done now, overall — especially homework, which has become something of a breeze since I started devoting two hours every night to it.  The rest I’ll work on…provided the SNOW DOESN’T EAT ME.

Hated both so much that I don’t even remember the endings anymore. Hannibal was such an interesting character before they made him become Batman (as in a living Deus Ex Machina). Authors seem to be consistently (although with a few notable exceptions) unable to portray people smarter than themselves, so it usually end up with comic book like plots.
