UBERSLEEP PUBLICATION (you heard me)
That’s right, you can all go ahead and scream FINALLY! now — it’s done!
I’m reminded of the day I decided to write this book…two years ago in May. It was part of my decision to take up a polyphasic schedule again. I’d already decided that I needed better notes, and more actual research into this thing, to handle the type and volume of questions that were coming my way — as well as my own turgid curiosity and the world’s refusal to take up the torch for me. After six long years, my own memories of Uberman, recorded but not terribly carefully, were starting to seem uncertain and overplayed; and while the group of interested people was small, it was interested, and it was asking really good questions, one of which was whether Everyman was a viable alternative to Uberman.
Well, a whole lot has been learned in the last two years. It was hard to get here and hard to adjust to all the things that being "here" has meant, but the schedule I’ve worked out makes so much else in my life easier, I honestly don’t know how I’d manage without it. I hope that the combination of hard/easy doesn’t come across in the book as confusing…think of it as just another in a long line of paradoxes, if you like.
Some practical information:
First, I have not yet held this book in my hands. Lulu’s printing is normally excellent — I’ve used it before (on my poetry book) and my husband uses it too, and we’ve always gotten good results. I’ve checked and triple-checked the minutae of the design and seen every line of the print-ready proofs, and it all looks perfect to me. But I cannot promise, if you order a physical copy right-this-second-now, that it will be without flaw. If it’s way screwed up, I will replace it if I can afford to (i.e. if you’re planning to order ten, better wait). But I just can’t make a personal guarantee until I see it. The electronic copy is all tested and good, though.
I’ve ordered mine, and it should be here in about a week. So if you want a hard copy, you may want to wait that long, or order the electonic copy first if you don’t mind paying for both, and can’t wait.
Pricing is $9.95 for the (softcover) book, $4.95 for the downloadable PDF. The PDF does not have the covers, but is otherwise identical.
You can buy the book right now by going to this link. I will put a permanent link on the site as soon as I can (but for now, I’m already doing this when I should be doing homework!). Searching Lulu.com for "Ubersleep" or any other reasonable keyword ought to pull it up, too.
There is a free preview on the buying page as well. It’s just the covers and the first handful of pages, but it gives you an idea, I think. Note the Table of Contents if you want to see what the book contains before you buy it.
Remember to keep your receipt, since if there’s another edition of the book and you already bought one, I’ll pass you a free electronic copy of the new one.
You can also rate the book and leave reviews at the buying page; whether you do or not is totally up to you.
And I would be a total buttface for failing to take some space and say THANK YOU to everyone who asked about this book, had conversations with me about this book and/or about polyphasic sleep, told me they wanted to buy this book, and contributed to the body of knowledge on polyphasic sleep in any way. Obviously this whole deal is a lot more about you than it is about me, and I hope the book does your questions and your learning and your pioneering spirits some justice.
Good ni–oh, wait.
It’s not naptime for a while yet!
;)

You noticed that you triple posted, right? You have double posted once a while ago, didn’t comment on it then. Anyways, I would like to say good job on getting your book out, and I already bought the electronic version.
I have to say, I read the part on your role playing, what kind of campaigns did you do. Did you do Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, I thinks that what they where called then, or something else. And, to be honest, anybody that played paintball has played a live action role playing. There are many kinds of role playing, and I like them because they are interactive stories based on rules.
I think this is what society needs, because before hand there are just the people that do this on rumor. Now that you made a book that is in between a self-help book and a research book, I think more people will join. It is repetitious, but I like that in books, especially books that aren’t for fun but for reference and learning. I didn’t notice any errors except in your table you didn’t have one of the giant open ended like the others (page 25). And I like this book a lot because unlike most books, I want to read yours again. Keep the price low so more people will buy it, recommend it. I know I will recommend it.
I also think you should have put in a part that tells of ways to make a better sleep blog, or something like it. Thanks so much for your book. I only had issues with my poly-phasic during the summer. I just started sleeping in on my core and couldn’t get over it. But I still needed my naps though, and I did sleep less, a lot less, than when I wasn’t poly-phasing.
Thanks for your comments and your recommendation, dragon! I tried to strike a good balance between information, advice, and a bit of entertainment, and I’m glad to hear it sounds like I did it, at least for one reader. *yay*
We played a whole lot of AD&D, yes, and some White Wolf and other things too. I remember for a whole year there was a campaign that ran from about 6:00 in the evening on Friday to sometimes lunchtime on Saturday, and that was just one of about three at a time that I was usually involved in. They were *awesome*, because I went to school with some astonishingly smart people, and to get to sit with them all and play out these highly-organized, ultra-creative stories was some of the best fun I’ve had. When I have the time, I’m totally finding a grown-up campaign to get back in on!
Alright, about time! ;-) Glad you got it up, I just bought the first physical copy! Well I hope I made it first…. :-P Congrats on the release, I’ll let you know what I think once I get it, keep up the awesome work!
*runs off chanting* “First….first….first…..”
Hi,
I just downloaded a copy of the book. Very excited to read it! Would you be interested in posting an excerpt to our forum on Alternative Sleep Patterns: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=50
There has been some discussion there about your book.
Cheers,
asher
Ax — I dunno, sales have been much better than I expected! If you give me your order #, though, I can tell you if you were first. ;)
Asher — I’d be happy to post an excerpt, thanks for the opportunity! Maybe I’ll ask the group what kind of exerpt they’d be interested in first.
Of course I’m first….heh. I just dropped you my order number via email, just curious. :-P
Hey asher — FYI, I signed up for an account over at DreamViews, and haven’t received my confirmation email all day. Presumably it’ll get here eventually, and I’ll get on that excerpt. ;)
Thanks,
PD
My apologies. I approved your account by hand. Sometimes activation emails get trapped by people’s spam filters.
Cheers,
asher
Hey, I just got the book delivered to me at work…right after my nap, lol. I came back up and there it was! Funny too because it’s right as I’m starting to move back into the Everyman schedule again after a week or two of having to not be on it, how convenient.
….smells kinda plasticish, but somehow a bit good…looks good, I’ll me looking at this when I get home! Great work!
