Upgrades Done, Mostly — Pics Welcome!
Well, that’s about it for the upgrades — New theme, new organization of the Polyphasic articles (now all down the right side in handy Order What Makes Sense), Twitter feed, and such. More “such” possibly on the way, but this is the main stuff I wanted to have done, so Yay!
You may have noticed that the big image at the top is randomized; right now it flips between four “stock” images and one I designed myself. (Refresh to see a different image — and I bet you totally can’t guess which one I made. ;)
Over time, I’d like to build a large(-ish) library of custom images to use here; I’ll be working on them gradually and so will a few other kind souls I know, but I wanted to take the chance to invite everyone to submit images to go in the random pool and show up (unannounced! and unsuspected!) on the front page. If you want to make an image, just follow these simple guidelines. Images should be:
- 865×180 pixels in dimension
- of the .jpg format-persuasion
- in some way related to either the reason-and-religion question, or polyphasic sleep. Or just ridiculously cool — if it’s ridiculously cool, I’ll use it pretty much no matter what. ;)
If you have any problems with, or comments about the new design, or something you’d like to see added as I continue to tweak it, please leave a note or shoot me an email with your thoughts. (I won’t give them back, but I will give them a good home, promise.)
Now, I have to go attempt to cook sprouts, which is a far more baffling proposition than it seems like it ought to be. Wish me luck!

Hey, funny, I was looking at the random images and was going to guess the “thou shalt think” image…until I realized the rest had watermarks, lol. I like the re-design, have you thought of doing anything with your “*Transcendental *Logic” headline?
Congrats! Love the new style and theme of the blog. I could definitely use a little more transcendental-ness to balance my logic, so I can’t wait to see what comes out of here.
I like the newly organized polyphasic side, too! I hadn’t seen some of those posts before. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I’ve been doing the exact same meditation in “Can’t Fall Asleep for a nap? Try This.” for a while. I kept laughing because I kept predicting the different parts of it until I realized that it’s the same meditation that I practice before I sleep. I was reading and thought, “I wonder if the sensation lags behind a little for her as it does for me,” then saw you address that. :D
When you do the meditation, do you sometimes find it near impossible to get the Chi sensation to actually go to the tip top of your head? I have to focus extra sharp most of the time for that.
Glad you like it! That’s hilarious about the nap meditation, but since it works, hardly shocking. ;) I know what you mean about the top of the head, but here’s something I learned from the Shaolin guys that’s even more fun in my experience: The hardest place to focus that feeling is typically the d’an t’ien, or energy center, which is approximately 2 inches below and 2 inches behind your navel. (You’ll know it when you get it!) The reason this area is special, at least according to those “in the know”, is because you can STORE chi energy here, whereas in the rest of your body, chi moves on pathways and is never really still. (There are a few exceptions, but generally speaking.) Therefore, it’s both hardest to get the hang of focusing chi on your d’an t’ien (if you don’t mind, I’m gonna start leaving those apostrophes off!), but also, according to my teacher(s), it’s the most important place to get the hang of. …When I first learned this, I thought “nah”, but later when I tried that nap-meditation again, I realized that I hadn’t been getting that area so completely that I hadn’t even realized I was missing it! So check it out and let me know what you discover.
Hi Aximilation! I have thought about doing something with the headline — this theme will let me replace it with a logo graphic if I want — but wow, I suck at graphic design. If anything brilliant comes to me, though, I’ll get my husband to design it; he’s pretty darn good. (He does the comic Leave it to Jesus, and I LOVE the look of that site, which he built from scratch, the jerk. ;)
Will do tonight! :)
By the way (I think I tried to post this before the posting bug was fixed… so I don’t think you got it), do you know what your MBTI type is? I happened upon mypersonality.info the other day and remembered my INTPness, and now I can’t stop thinking in terms of me being INTP. :P “I love this book/activity/thought/ect…. I wonder if it’s an INTP thing.” Haha. (Dork, I am. (Even bigger dork. That came out Yoda-ish in my head because I’ve been in a Star Wars obsession ever since I watch episodes 1-3 on Spike this weekend. Can’t pass up some good Star Wars!))
